Crimson Publishing is looking for two Editorial Assistants to join the team at our offices in Bath.

Crimson is an independent publisher of high-quality resources designed to improve the way people live and work. Our imprints include Trotman (careers and university guides), White Ladder (pregnancy and childcare), Pathfinder (Britain’s best-loved walking guides) and Time Out (travel guides).

The two roles are:

Editorial Assistant – Crimson

We have an exciting role for an ambitious graduate to join our team in Bath. The Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to the editorial teams across the full range of book imprints at Crimson Publishing, but working mainly on the Trotman imprint.


Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Support commissioning editors in all aspects of the research, commissioning and content development stages (for both print and online material)
  • Write author briefs and manage handovers to production
  • Fact check, edit and write content for websites, in line with market needs
  • Check proofs for print books and ebooks, and mark up and return corrections for the typesetter
  • Clear text and image permissions
  • Act as the main point of contact with other departments and external parties (both on phone and email)
  • Create and maintain records on our bibliographic and rights databases, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
  • Coordinate, chase and collate advertising copy from third party clients, liaising over specifications and print deadlines
  • Arrange author contracts, payments and complimentary books

Experience of working in an editorial department of a publishing house is essential.

Good MS Office skills including Word, Excel, Outlook required.

Editorial Assistant – Trotman

We have an exciting role for an Editorial Assistant to join our team in Bath to support work on our online education resources. This varied role includes both content generation and customer support, ideal for an enthusiastic and proactive person who is keen to get stuck in to all aspects of website delivery. This role will provide support for the small editorial and development teams.


Range of responsibilities, throughout different stages of website development, include:

  • Customer support, including handling and implementing feedback, and managing website queries.
  • Maintaining the quality of the websites once they are live, including testing, reporting bugs and monitoring changes.
  • Thoroughly fact-checking and rewriting existing website content on an ongoing basis, to ensure accuracy.
  • Planning, researching, writing and editing factual content, in line with market needs.
  • Managing several blogs, including generating relevant content for them.
  • Working closely with a number of external contributors to the site to deliver content.
  • Sourcing, resizing and uploading images and artwork.
  • Helping create and source rich media, such as video case studies.
  • In liaison with the rest of our team, contributing towards design briefs and helping to maximise the impact of the websites.
  • Completing projects on time and to budget through a can-do approach to work and excellent organisation skills.

Key Attributes and Experience

  • Confident, friendly and efficient when dealing with colleagues and customers face-to-face, on the phone or over email.
  • Clear and effective writing skills.
  • A great eye for detail.
  • Proactive when it comes to researching updates and new information.
  • Extremely well-organised with proven ability to prioritise tasks, work well under pressure and effectively manage their own time.
  • Is flexible, adaptable and happy to take initiative within a busy, small team.
  • Strong communicator on all fronts.

The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with a demonstrable interest and some experience in working on high-quality websites. A proven interest in supporting students in education would be an advantage. Experience of text editing and rewriting for the web is desirable, as is experience with using WordPress and Photoshop.
