Marianne Wilson

Marianne is an interdisciplinary researcher and educator focused on ensuring AI benefits everyone in society. She has published articles on the opportunities and risks of AI for careers practice, and on how to include practitioners in AI development. She has made contributions on the topic of AI at events for the CDI, NICEC, CICA, CDAA and the Scottish AI Alliance.

She is finalising her PhD research at Edinburgh Napier University. This project involves collaboration with career practitioners and young people to understand design and evaluation priorities for chatbots used in career services.

The aim is to support the development of chatbots that align with professional ethical standards and that offer genuine benefit to clients. This work is supported by Skills Development Scotland and the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences. She worked alongside Michael to develop the Career Development Institute's AI for Career Practitioners course. While co-facilitating the course, Marianne helps practitioners to understand AI capabilities, risks and limitations and use them in line with professional ethical standards.

In addition to her work on AI, she teaches modules on information society and security and information strategy at Edinburgh Napier University and training in qualitative research tools for doctoral students. The theme across all her work is bridging the gap between people and technology.
