- Be honest about what you liked and what you didn't
- Clearly identify when you have received a complimentary copy

Frequently Asked Questions
Collapsible content
Do I need to have a large social media following?
No. We're interested in relevance and engagement rather than follower numbers alone. A specialist audience of careers professionals, educators or academics can be just as valuable as a larger general audience.
Do I need to be an established reviewer?
Not at all. We're happy to hear from people who are new to reviewing as well as experienced reviewers. If you have a blog, website, social media account, podcast, newsletter, academic profile or another platform where you share your views, we'd love to hear from you.
What types of books can I review?
Trotman publishes books across:
- careers education
- careers guidance
- employability
- higher education
- professional development
- human resources
- SEND
We also publish specialist and academic titles.
We'll do our best to match review opportunities to your interests and expertise.
Will I receive a free copy of every book?
No. Review copies are limited and opportunities will depend on the title, publication schedule, format and number of copies available.
Joining our reviewer community means you'll be considered for relevant opportunities; it doesn't guarantee a copy of every title.
Can academics join?
Absolutely. We particularly welcome academics and researchers whose work relates to careers, employability, education, higher education, vocational learning, career development and related fields.
Can I review an older Trotman title?
Our main focus will be on new and forthcoming titles, but we may occasionally have opportunities to review selected backlist books.
If there is a particular Trotman title you'd like to review, you can mention it when you sign up.
Do I have to give a positive review?
No. We want reviews to be genuine and independent. You are never expected to give a book a positive review simply because you received a complimentary copy.
Where can I publish my review?
That's up to you. Depending on your audience, this could be your blog, website, newsletter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube channel, podcast, Goodreads, Amazon or another relevant platform.
For academic reviewers, reviews may also be suitable for academic journals, university platforms or other scholarly publications, subject to the publication's own requirements.
What if I can't review a book after receiving it?
We understand that things sometimes get in the way. If you're unable to complete a review, simply let us know.
Can I join if I live outside the UK?
Yes. We're happy to hear from reviewers internationally, although the availability of physical review copies may vary by location. Digital review copies may be available for some titles.
