Siobhan Neary is Professor of Career Development Practice and Head of iCeGS at the University of Derby. She has over 30 years’ experience within the career guidance sector as a practitioner, manager, trainer, lecturer and researcher.
Siobhan Neary is Professor of Career Development Practice and Head of iCeGS at the University of Derby. She has over 30 years’ experience within the career guidance sector as a practitioner, manager, trainer, lecturer and researcher. Her portfolio includes work on career management and employability, CPD and international development work in Sri Lanka, Mauritius, China, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
She is a registered Career Development Practitioner, a Fellow of both the Career Development Institute (CDI) and the National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling (NICEC), where she is also vice-chair. She is an editor for the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling and regularly publishes in academic and professional practice journals. In 2016 together with Clare Johnson she published CPD for the Career Development professional, published by Trotman.
In 2020 Siobhan was invited to be the academic chair of the Policy Connect inquiry into the Workforce of the Future, resulting in the Transition to Ambition: Navigating the Career Maze report. Her research interests focus on the professionalisation of careers practice with a focus on professional identity, CPD, practitioner research and quality improvement and in April 2022 gave her inaugural lecture entitled ‘Guiding the future: A professionalisation project for the career development sector’.
