This is an important book – a handbook really, containing practical advice.

This is an important book – a handbook really, containing practical advice focused on what graduates can to do to adapt and succeed in the AI age; I will be making sure my sixth form students are aware of it. It gives clear insight into how work has and is changing in response to new technology from the analogue age to the advent of AI, along with fascinating context including the characteristics and challenges faced by the four generations that currently make up the world of work.

I did not expect to encounter Iron Man, Taylor Swift, or the advent of the motor car when I picked up this book, but it is full of engaging examples and data that supports the content and makes it an enjoyable read. These can also be easily used to illustrate key points with students, and I look forward to using the Attention Questionnaire with sixth form students!

It is difficult to predict with certainty which jobs will be affected by what Redmond describes as the Zombie Jobs Apocalypse and of course he acknowledges that new opportunities will be created, but what stands out is the importance of embracing and understanding AI alongside developing the skills and competencies to future proof your career and I will be reviewing and revising the skills element of our careers programme on account of what is in this book.

Crucially, this is a positive book that, whilst not evading the challenges AI brings, reframes it as an opportunity and the chapters titled The Five Killer Apps and The AI Jobs Formula provide advice and tools that students can use now to help them get ahead as they navigate finding work in the AI age.
