Trade - Advance information and metadata is sent out to all booksellers 

Once the jacket, book description, keywords and categories are finalised this information is sent out to all booksellers and trade buyers guides.   

Social media

We will also announce the title on our social media channels and begin the marketing plan for the book.  

We recommend that you also begin talking about your book with your audience. You will be sent a suite of digital marketing assets to help you with this.  

Author Questionnaire

Around this time, you will receive anauthorquestionnaire, this helps us with our marketing and sales plans for the books.

Sales

Along with the trade orders we will be looking at generating bulk sales with key organisations and institutions where relevant. 

If your title is an academic title, we will be contacting relevant professionals and academics to stimulate inspection copy requests.

4-6 months before publication 

Marketing and Sales Plan 

The marketing team will send you a marketing plan for your feedback. They will also confirm promotional opportunities like blog posts and webinars to support the book. 

Please let the team know of any key events you are planning to attend. 

Sales 

Sales will continue outreach to institutions and organisations.

2-4 months before publication 

Reviews 

The marketing team will send out review copies and requests to relevant reviewers and media. 

 Endorsements will be added to the Trotman website and bookshop listings. 

Social Media 

We will continue to promote the book via our channels.  

 This is a great time to get involved in conversations and grow your network. If you require any assets for your social channels, please contact the sales and marketing team. 

Emails

We will send out a pre-order email to our email list.

Sales 

The team will confirm pre-publication orders with trade distributors and key retailers like Amazon.

1 month before publication 

Book & eBook 

Your book will be printed and shipped to our warehouse ready for distribution. 

You will receive your author copies once the books have been received at our warehouse. 

As soon as the eBook is finalised, this will be distributed to our eBook partners and academic services. 

Social media

We will continue pre-order activity including posting any reviews and endorsements that we’ve received. We’ll tag you in our posts so you can repost on your own channels.  

We recommend posting within your professional communities and engaging in conversations that are relevant to your book. If someone is interested in reviewing your book, please ask them to sign up here or inform the marketing and sales team.  

Sales

The team will follow up on any bulk order leads and institutional inspection copies and purchases.

1 week before publication

We will be increasing our activity online around the book and encourage you to do the same to increase awareness and excitement for publication day. 

Publication day 

Sales 

Your book is now available in stores, and online orders will be shipped and delivered.

Your eBook will now be available on demand from the Trotman website and all eBook partners.

Emails 

An email will be sent to our mailing list to inform people that the book is now available to buy. If you also have a mailing list, we recommend that you send your audience an email letting them know they can now order online or purchase from their local bookshop.

Online webinar

Around the time of publication, the scheduled 30–60-minute webinar to launch the book will take place.

We will announce that the book is now available. Unboxing videos or publication day posts and videos from authors are a great way of getting more audience interaction and awareness of your title.  

When sharing the publication on your social media channels please include a range of booksellers and where appropriate tag them.

Post publication 

Marketing & Sales 

The marketing team will continue to execute the marketing and sales plan. 

Stock will be monitored continuously across our distribution and sales network to ensure the book has good availability. 

If you have additional promotional opportunities and ideas that weren’t in your author questionnaire, please be sure to let the marketing and sales team know as soon as possible. 

For any physical marketing items like bookmarks, we ask for 4 weeks' notice to ensure they can be delivered in time.
